#13 Surgery Update

Today was one of the most agonizing days of our lives - pleading with Heavenly Father for a miracle if it be His will to grant it. We were blessed tonight with the best news we could have possibly received. Originally the doctors said it was "highly unlikely" that they wouldn't take out her gluteal muscles. Today the gluteal muscles still looked pale and were not responding to stimulus, but they were not dead. They left everything there. Nothing was removed! The tissue surrounding the muscle all looked healthy. We are feeling cautiously hopeful that things will be okay with her glutes. We are so grateful right now we can't even tell you!!! We are cautiously hopeful going into this weekend that her muscle will remain viable and that she will be able to keep that muscle that is so important for her comfort in this life. 

During her surgery today, they put in a temporary tracheostomy to get her through the rest of her surgeries.  Now she'll be able to communicate much better!!! They will put a T-piece in the trach tomorrow after the swelling in her throat goes down, so that she can talk. This also means that she doesn't have to be so sedated and she will be much more alert! She will still be on pain medication so she can be comfortable.

We fasted and prayed for this news today and are grateful for all others that are also praying for Sarah. Today this was music to our ears. Thank you thank you!!!! We still need miracles and we don't doubt they will happen!!!

    We are always praying for her. Please post when you need us to fast as well. I would have fasted again today for her if I have known. Love that girl so much!

    Good news. I will pray for a mighty miracle for her glute muscles and for her body to heal. She is a survivor and loved by so many. Also will pray for her mom and dad for comfort and peace and for her siblings too.

    A total miracle. Many prayers were said today - lots of them by the little kids - and it was so sweet to feel the spirit as they prayed for sarah. So grateful for today’s news. Keep the good news coming! 🙏🏻💙🤟🏻

    Oh I've been waiting for this up date all day! I basically haven't stopped praying! Go Sarah! I will keep hoping for more good news. To see both parents together in her room brought a tear to my eyes! And that she'll be able to talk soon....that will be amazing.

    Beautiful! Neat to hear of your faith and testimonies. So happy to see all your smiling faces. Glad for the many miracles. Trusting and praying that there will be many more.     I wanted you to know that I can't fast by giving up food and water so I decided that would not play any games on my phone until Sarah is released from the hospital, as my way of fasting. I did this after reading about her gluteal issues and wanted to do something. I have been praying specifically for her gluteal muscles and thighs, and include prayers for her overall health as I saw she had an infection last week. I know there are miracles and Heavenly Father is watching over His dear daughter. --Angela Dilley

Sarah gets to see her family!

Aug 24th was one of the greatest days in the last 3 weeks. Sarah was able to go outside for the first time and her family was able to come see her! She loved it!! She has missed them so much and they have missed her so much! The nurses and therapists were so sweet to bring her out to see her family. She still has her fever off and on and still has a high heart rate. Her CT scan yesterday showed that everything was fine in her abdomen,  but they saw some very small PE’s (pulmonary embolism- very tiny blood clots) in her lungs. They are thinking that those  may be contributing to her fever and high heart rate. They started her on a heparin drip for that. They are still trying to rule out any source of infection too. All other tests are negative so far. She’s very sleepy and getting lots of good rest which her body needs so badly right now. Sarah is told of her injuries

Today was the day Sarah found out about the extent of her injuries.   Both mom and dad were allowed to go to the hospital to be with Sarah to talk to her about her accident and her injuries. They had prepared themselves for this difficult conversation for two weeks now. It turned out to be a very tender and sacred moment. Mom describes Sarah during this experience saying, “She looked like an angel. Her skin was glowing and she had a faint smile on her face the whole time.” Mom described to Sarah the extent of her injuries and made sure she understood what everything meant. Then she said, “Sarah, I know that’s a lot to take in. Do you know your Heavenly Father knows you? Do you know He loves you and has a plan for you?” Sarah nodded. “He has a plan for you. There is going to be time for lots and lots of tears about this loss, but right now we are crying tears of joy because we still have you. Sarah's Story

As many of you already know, our sweet Sarah was involved in a serious car accident on Thursday night July 30th around 8:30pm. She and three of her friends were driving back from Bear Lake and were involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. All in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. She and her friends were taken to various hospitals in Cache Valley and treated for their injuries. Moving forward, this blog will serve an information center and will be updated as Sarah’s situation changes. She was taken first to Logan Regional Hospital in critical condition. There she was stabilized and her injuries were quickly assessed. She had serious abdominal bleeding, no feeling or movement in her lower extremities, and an issue with her aorta which was causing significant blood flow issues to her limbs.
